Gabe's Birthday Weekend- Part 2

Birthday Party Day!!!!!!

Gabe has been really into Curious George lately, so he decided he wanted a Curious George birthday party.  I found all the party supplies on clearance at Party City because it's being discontinued....booo, but yay for good prices :)

I wanted to do something simple while I could still get away with it, so decided to have it at Veterans Park in Hoover.  I knew this would be easy for most parents to get to, since his school is not too far away.  It turned out really well.  I wish it would have been about 10 degrees cooler as it was at the hottest part of the day and close to 90 degrees.  I don't know how the kids lasted as long as they did....but they did!  I purchased the cake from Olexa's Bakery in Mountain Brook.  Most people know I am a cake snob.  I have to have the best of the best.  Last year we used Dreamcakes and I was super pleased, but wanted to try Olexa's this year.  They are known for their wedding cakes, so thought- why not get my 3 year old's cake from there?!? haha.  I loved the way they decorated it and it tasted really good.  I think the cake started to split or crumble and they patched it up with icing...although they did not tell me this and I did not see till I took out of the box on Sunday (they presented it to me in the box on Saturday and just opened to show me the top view).  That kinda bothered me...I wish they would have acknowledged and offered to take off $10.00 or something just to have good customer service.  I probably won't use them again for that reason.  I think I liked Dreamcakes a little bit better anyways.  I also want to try Magic Muffins in Cahaba Heights and Pastry Art in Homewood.  I've heard great things about those two as well :)

I made chicken salad and a pepper jelly dip for the adults and my mom made peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for the kids.  We also had bananas, banana chips, coconut macaroons, goldfish and twizzlers.  I think G had a great time and am thankful for all the friends and family who came :)

Gabe's Birthday Weekend- Part 1

We had a great birthday weekend!  Friday, Gabe's school had a fieldtrip to the zoo.  I took off work to go and  of course see the monkeys, they are my fav!  I want to go back and ride a camel- I wonder if G would do that....hmmm.  Anywho- we had a great time.  I was ready for a nap afterwards, but Gabe was full force all day.  I then spent the remainder of Friday getting things together for Gabe's birthday party.

And then we met Brooke and Millie for Sno Biz

Saturday- Happy Birthday G-man!

I woke Gabe up by singing Happy Birthday in the most obnoxious way imaginable and then asked him if he was ready to go birthday potty and brush his birthday teeth.  This theme carried throughout the day as we ate birthday breakfast at IHOP and then got back in the birthday car to go pick up the birthday cake :)  We then went to Olivia's (Gabe's friend/classmate's) birthday party at a gymnastics gym.  Gabe was a little shy at first, but he eventually warmed up to the idea and was running and jumping with all the other kids in no time.  It was cool watching to see his "gymnastics" skills.  I definitely see the benefit in developing these.  He had to crisscross jump over a white line on a inflatable mat, climb a wall, zig zag through a tunnel, walk on a balance beam (on the floor) and then run and jump into a foam pit.  All the kiddos looked so cute doing this.  We then picked up Uncle Adam at the Summit and grabbed birthday snow cones, which are our fav thing to do lateley.  Gabe chose pink and blue bubblegum, I got Mai Tai with cream and Adam chose Homemade Ice Cream- yum yum.  I normally get Frog in a blender with Cream- Try it, if you haven't.  I think my ideal job would be to own and work at one of these huts.  No lie....
After Sno Biz we went to dinner at Costas.  Gabe and I shared spaghetti and meatballs and then we went to the Dollar Theater to see Alvin and the Chipmunks.  Gabe enjoyed it, he got a little restless at the end, but I wanted to see the ending so we got through it.  Of course he had a popcorn and sprite for the full experience.

April 2011- Gabe's Birthday Party

As I have mentioned before I am not a big birthday person, however I feel really bad letting that effect Gabe, so I knew I needed to get pumped about a party. I wanted to do a zoo/jungle theme. I went to Party City, and like I always do, I impulsed bought anything and everything that had a zoo animal on it. haha. It was quite the experience. I did end up returning some stuff, because after a few days I got a little overwhelmed and thought it might look like zoo print vomitted everywhere....so I exchanged for some solid colors. I was most excited about the cake. I ordered from DreamCakes bakery here in Birmingham and it did not dissapoint. I met with the baker to talk to her about what I wanted. She did an amazing job and most important of all it melted in your mouth. We had a great turn out at a cute little park in Helena. My mom helped a ton and made food and my friend Cindy was a HUGE help in decorating and helping me get things in order the night before and day of. Here are several pics!

Isn't the cake A-M-A-Z-I-N-G?

Taylor's Bday party was later that afternoon :)
